Earlier this week, Merge Records recording artist M. Ward released the latest single off his highly-anticipated new album, A Wasteland Companion. Brimming with pop sensibilities and indie heart, the song quickly spread across the internet, sparking conversations and igniting anticipation for the record’s April 10 release date. In case you missed the song until now, you can stream “Primitive Girl” below:
As with every new single that comes our way, we spun the record around the UTG offices and gave everyone a chance to chime in with their thoughts on “Primitive Girl.” You can read thoughts and critiques from UTG staffers below:
?”Regardless of the fact that it is a somewhat unpopular vote, I have always been of the opinion that M. Ward was the vintage to Zooey Daschanel’s thrift Store. Ward seems to confirm this theory, conjuring up particles of dust from old records by The Bangles and Traveling Wilburys to create a catchy and carefree single. Honestly, if Primitive Girl is any indication of what direction Ward is pointing his new album, you can put me down to purchase at least two. Great opening cut.” – Josh Hammond (Twitter)

America’s newest singing sensation is at it again.
President Obama, fresh off his Al Green impression a month ago, jammed on a verse of the blues classic Sweet Home Chicago during a White House concert last night.
“Come on!” Obama wailed. “Baby don’t you want to go?”
He then tilted the mike to blues legend B.B. King, who sang: “To that same old place …”
“Sweet Home Chicago!” finished Obama, a Windy City resident.
The performance came at the end of the concert dedicated to blues music (and is at the end of the video).
Green and other musicians who performed at the blues concert — including Buddy Guy and Mick Jagger — urged Obama to join in their finale tribute to the president’s home town.
“You can do it,” said one musician.
“I heard you sing with Al Green,” said another.
On Jan. 19, Obama crooned the opening lines of Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together at a campaign fundraiser, a performance that quickly went viral.
PBS will broadcast the concert — In Performance at the White House: Red, White and Blues — on Monday night. It’s the latest in a series of White House concerts honoring different forms of music.
“As tonight’s performers will demonstrate, the blues continue [...] Continue Reading…

Madonna (Facebook) has been looping into my head since her memorable, show-stopping performance at this year’s Super Bowl. I was happy to come across this remix by LMFAO (Facebook, Twitter) for her latest single, “Give Me All Your Luvin’.” The added addition of the rap paying ode to Madonna was a nice touch, as well as the additional pop and techno flavor. The remix doesn’t get carried away and would be a nice radio single if it were to take that path.
It was also just announced on Madonna’s Facebook page that the video for “Girls Gone Wild”, the second MDNA single, is to be filmed this week and will be directed by the talented Mert Marcus!
If you an’t get enough of Madonna, don’t miss the “Give Me All Your Luvin’” video:
And don’t forget to catch her when she [...] Continue Reading…
